UVBEP
facilitates the Everybody Wins! (EW!) Reading Mentoring Program at
five elementary schools throughout the Upper Valley. Last year more
than 110 dedicated individuals read with children during lunch one
day each week during the school year.
EW! is designed to foster a love of reading in elementary school children
to create life-long readers. Participation
from area business people and community members has made a significant
impact on many students' lives though this program. Teachers, parents,
students and mentors involved in the program have reported improved student
attitudes toward reading and school in general.
UVBEP actively recruits mentors during the summer and early fall, and
continues to accept mentor applications throughout the year. New mentors
are introduced to the program through an orientation. Mentor support is
maintained throughout the year by volunteer teachers who coordinate the
program and with literacy workshops.
