CLiC
Liaisons
The UVBEP
is pleased to offer CLiC
- Connecting Learning in the Community, a service to help local schools,
employers and community members connect.
This growing resource includes BEST Employers, Teachers’ PET, CLiC
Jobs and the CLiC Liaison Network. CLiC enables educators to tap into
the expertise of area employers and community members. Resources cover
topics such as business, communications, engineering, foreign languages,
geography, history, performing arts, personal finance, physical fitness,
science, teamwork, technology, visual arts and more!
We collect information from employers and community members willing to
participate in activities and make it available to our Full Partner Schools
through the CLiC Liaison Network. A CLiC Liaison is a designated person
who serves as a link between UVBEP and their school to enhance and expand
community connections and career exploration. Liaisons receive a stipend
($1 per student per year) for the extra time and effort required to accomplish
the responsibilities.
The purpose of establishing the network is to:
- Enhance school-community partnerships
- Ensure timely dissemination of UVBEP opportunities to teachers and
students
- Increase the number of students engaging in experiential learning
opportunities
- Increase educator awareness of and participation in professional
development opportunities
Companies registered in BEST Employers and individuals registered in Teachers’
PET are not screened in any manner. We encourage educators to use the
same process they normally would before inviting a guest into the classroom
or taking students on a field trip (i.e., interviewing, checking references,
etc.).
For reporting purposes, school personnel are asked to keep their Liaisons
informed of the results of contacts made (guest speakers, field trips,
job shadows, internships, etc.). In turn, Liaisons provide this feedback
to UVBEP so we can continue to improve the service and track its impact
on the community.
The following schools have contracted with UVBEP for this service in 2007-2008.
If your school is not listed, ask your principal or superintendent to
consider becoming a Full Partner School.
