The Upper Valley Business and Education Partnership is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning by making educational experiences relevant to students and their futures. The Partnership serves as a bridge between the classroom and the world outside the classroom by linking community schools with local employers. Our programs integrate academic standards with career development to benefit all stakeholders: students, parents, educators, employers and the community.

History

The Upper Valley Partnership formed in 1996 with Federal seed money through the School-to-Work Opportunities Act. Through traditional and innovative programs, the UVP linked classrooms with the community in Hanover, Lebanon and Mascoma School Districts. The Federal grant expired in March 1999. Fortunately, communities in the Upper Valley recognize the value of fostering relationships between local schools and employers. In November 1998, a team of dedicated community members representing all stakeholder groups from both Vermont and New Hampshire, incorporated the Upper Valley Business and Education Partnership. The Partnership achieved the nonprofit 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status and currently operates with the generous support of school districts, employers, community organizations and individual community members.

Membership

The UVBEP has 100 registered members representing all stakeholder groups. Anyone interested in working for improved school-community relations in the Upper Valley may become a member. Annual memberships (no dues required) include the following benefits for individuals:

• eligibility to vote at the annual meeting
• invitations to special events
• the opportunity to participate in programs and program planning

UVBEP is a member of the Intermediary Network, a peer-led association of leading education and workforce development organizations working in local communities to ensure the success of youth.
